What a year it has been!

Like many organisations we had to cancel our entire physical concert season. In our case, this was over 60 already planned concerts Australia-wide which included our 3 day annual festival and yearly concert series (which for the first time involved touring artists interstate!).

As many of you know, we pivoted quickly to a livestream concert series, and have also been conducting workshops and online courses this year.

We couldn't have done this without the enormous generosity of our audiences, so thank you to everyone who has supported us during this time!

This 3 day online festival will feature ONE NEW CONCERT by Andrea Gonzalez Caballero and REPLAYS of previous events.

Tickets to see Andrea's concert are only $22AUD and the rest of this festival will be entirely FREE!

Scroll down below to see what we have on offer!

I'll look forward to seeing you online!

Ben performed 3 sold out concerts for the Melbourne Guitar Festival in January 2020, this is a replay of his Parkville concert, with a special guest, Ben Gillard as an opening act!

Head of guitar studies at Yale University for more than 30 years, collaborations with guitar legends John Williams and Paco Peña, 22 recorded albums, and countless world tours, Ben is highly regarded as a leading figure of the classical guitar.

Here is a note Ben shared with us in January, prior to his concerts for us:

"First let me say, what a great honor it is to be asked to play and teach at this wonderful concert series!
There will be Music that has been written for me by dear colleagues, a set of three works by JS Bach who was the reason I started playing classical guitar to begin with, two pieces of my own (one of which I’m writing now!) and arrangements that I’ve made over the years of Singer/Song Writers and Guitarists who continue to inspire.
I so look forward to playing for you all and meeting you!
Peace, love and guitars!"

Derek Gripper

Derek Gripper:
Parkville Concert

This concert is a replay from Derek's sold out Parkville concert in March 2020, which was part of his 16 concert Australian tour organised by the MGF.

Derek Gripper is a classical guitarist who has taken a unique path. As a South African classical musician he felt limited by the music of the traditional classical guitar and so went on a journey through different musical styles, returning always to the guitar to find ways of bringing what he learned onto the instrument.

This concert will explore the dialogue between the disparate styles that have informed his work to date: Kora, Bach, South African jazz, Contemporary Classical and large scale improvisations.

Quotations of Bach, Malian songs, virtuosic kora compositions, Southern African bow music, and avant-garde Brazilian guitar music combine to create a new solo guitar which is at once intimate and explosive, improvised and composed, traditional and new.
