Australia’s great quartet Guitar Trek has delighted audiences around the world for over 30 years. With an ever-widening range of classical, popular, Spanish, South American and contemporary Australian works, the versatility of the guitar and the group’s unique guitar ‘family’ are showcased to stunning effect in every performance.
Proudly streaioneered by Timothy Kain in 1987, Guitar Trek has reinvented the guitar quartet medium through the unique combination of its classically-constructed, different-sized guitars – Treble, Standard, Baritone and Bass. Critics and audiences the world over have warmed to the freshness and energy of Guitar Trek’s live concert appearances. They are proud to have released their sixth album, Serene Nights on the ABC Classics label with a seventh on the way very soon. Four of Guitar Trek’s previous albums have been best-sellers on ABC Classics and their 25th anniversary disc “Six Fish” was released on Australia’s renowned Tall Poppies label.
This special concert will feature a selection of great new and existing commissions that have been written especially for the quartet medium, as Guitar Trek prepare to record another album of the very best of Australian music for the guitar family. Works include music by Nigel Westlake, Elena Kats-Chernin, Richard Charlton and the late Phillip Houghton.
This concert will be 60mins without intermission.
