IMPORTANT COVID-19 NOTICE

Due to public health concerns, live events have been cancelled all across the world.

In fact, the entire 2020 concert season for the Melbourne Guitar Festival is now shut down.

The Melbourne Guitar Festival is my only income, as my wife Amy is not working due to our 7 month old baby.

Our year has been thrown into financial disarray.

Many artists and event organisers will now be out of work for an unknown period of time.

If you wish to purchase a ticket to view the this exclusive digital concert, please know that you will be greatly helping support the artists involved and also my work with the Melbourne Guitar Festival.

Thank you for your support and understanding during these difficult times.

All proceeds will be split 50:50 between the artists and the Melbourne Guitar Festival.

“I thought it was impossible until I heard Derek do it”
– John Williams, famed classical guitarist

Derek has spent many years performing and recording his own translations of Bach’s violin and cello music, infusing his interpretations with his lessons from the oral traditions of Africa.

“I first heard Derek perform at the 2018 Adelaide Guitar Festival. It had been a long time since I had been truly transported into an artists’ soundworld, and Derek certainly took me on a journey. I was so impressed I had to see him perform again a few days later at the Melbourne Recital Centre!

His performance of Bach was a true highlight for me. He performed with such a refreshing and honest approach to the music, it was like I was hearing Bach through new ears. Nuances and voices I had never heard before came to life.

After the concert I met Derek in the foyer and told him he must return in 2019 to play at my Melbourne Guitar Festival. He agreed, and gave an incredible performance for us in September of 2019.

5 months later Derek returned, and I organised a 16 concert Australian tour for him. That was the first and final national tour organised by the Melbourne Guitar Festival, as Australia was then hit with Covid-19 restrictions.

Australia and our Melbourne Guitar Festival audiences have fallen in love with Derek’s approach to music and story telling. We have been truly spoilt by his world class performances and I am very proud to present him to our audiences.

Derek has touched on the music of J.S. Bach in his previous concerts for us, but never have we been treated to an entire concert of Bach’s music performed by Derek.

This livestream concert is definitely going to be special!”

– Michael MacManus, Melbourne Guitar Festival
